Some abilities only fire off at the end instead (Fireball takes 4 ticks, and will only activate after those 4 ticks, where the character gets their turn immediately). Slash takes 3 ticks: the character attack, and will get another turn in three ticks. For example, Guard takes only 1 tick, so your character will get their turn again in one time unit. Each action a character takes has a clearly defined "ticks" cost. Here's the main sticking points for me so far (both positives and negatives). Something like Children of Zodiark would be the closest analog I can think of (although I feel this one plays better). It is a "card collecting - SRPG hybrid", but it leans a lot more heavily on the SRPG aspect. I hadn't heard about this game before at all, but after roughly three hours of play, I have to say I'm overall quite impressed.
